AC1000

The Art Chinois AC1000 line of instruments are made exclusively for us by a small highly skilled workshop in Guangzhou, China.  The talented makers in this workshop went to violin making school with Jon Li many years ago, and through the years have refined their skills and techniques.  The result is a beautifully made instrument with fine workmanship, powerful and rich tone, and choice maple and spruce.  The varnish is done in the antique style.  We setup each instrument with a French Aubert bridge, quality soundpost, and a choice of Dominant, Eva Pirazzi, or Obligato strings.

AC1000E

We commissioned a special variant of the AC1000 made with fine quality European spruce and maple.  We then do the final graduations and shop setup here in San Jose.  This is a significant upgrade to our already fine AC1000 combining the best of Chinese craftsmanship and select European wood.  Our setup includes your choice of strings including Dominant, Eva Pirazzi, Obligato, Thomastic Vision, or Corelli Alliance.

AC200

Our AC200 violins are made for us in China to our specifications, featuring attractively figured maple and a nice grade of spruce for the top plate.  The varnishing is done with skill in a lightly shaded style, and the result is an attractive violin with satisfying tone for all skill levels.  We setup the violin with Aubert bridge, and carefully fit the soundpost and pegs.  A hardshell case is part of the outfit, as is the good quality brazilwood bow with horsehair.  The AC200 can be supplied with either Dominant or Chromcor strings.

Ming Jiang Zhu (Jon Li’s Recommendation)

Violins by Ming Jiang Zhu are outstanding for their combination of tone and craftsmanship… and that’s without considering their affordable price!  Not many violin makers can claim the accolades Zhu has won through the years; from the numerous certificates and medals he has won in the Violin Society of America competitions, to the full page article in the Time magazine in which was stated, “China can now lay claim to producing a contemporary equivalent to the famed Stradivarius”.  Mr. Zhu has a workshop in Guangzhou, China where he and his highly trained and talented staff make violins with wonderful craftsmanship and tone.  The woods are meticulously selected, highly flamed and figured maple, and fine even grained spruce.  Together with superb workmanship, the result is a handsome instrument with a warm, rich, and powerful tone.  The antique style varnish is superb and is far beyond anything else in it’s price range.

He recently won yet another gold medal in the Violin Society of America competition of 2007, and was presenting his first place winner here in the shop.  Our shop carries many different grades of Zhu’s instruments.  Please call for availability as instruments of this caliber and price are extremely rare.
